Laos strengthens trade secrets to promote intellectual property

VIENTIANE, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Department of Intellectual Property under the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce held a workshop on Trade Secret Law in Laos to discuss strategies for protecting intellectual property and promoting innovation amid ongoing ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement negotiations.

The meeting, held in the Lao capital Vientiane on Monday, brought together officials from both public and private sectors, according to the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The meeting came at a crucial time for Laos and the ASEAN region, as efforts toward deeper economic integration continue. It highlighted the importance of strengthening the legal framework and cooperation on intellectual property, with a particular focus on trade secrets as a key driver of innovation, investment, and fair competition.

The meeting offered participants a valuable opportunity to exchange insights and learn from regional and international experiences. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of emerging trends in trade secret protection, practical applications of intellectual property rights, and strategies for safeguarding trade secrets.

It also provided guidance for the ministry in advancing trade secret and intellectual property initiatives in line with the government's socio-economic development plan. (Source: Xinhua)
